Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI)
Our association with this prestigious university began in 2007 when 4 students from the Worcester Polytechnic Insitute in the USA designed and built a laundry station for community use at the Indlovu Project.
Since then the bonds between us have strengthened and expanded to such an extent that in 2009 we expect a contingent of 28 students.
The Shaster Foundation, the Indlovu Project and the people of Monwabisi Park greatly value our association with WPI. The students and advisory staff (in particular Professor Scott Jiusto) have engaged with us all in such a way as to create lasting friendships as well as a hugely valuable contribution towards the plan for upgrading this squatter camp into a sustainable eco-village.
WPI Cape Town Project Centre
The Monwabisi Park Integrated Development Plan is a product of the 2008 Cape Town Project Centre student research with community members. The plan presents analysis of existing conditions and proposals for future development in this Cape Town informal settlement community. We anticipate the plan will grow and evolve over time with future student, faculty, sponsors, and community member involvement.
