Sustainable systems

Sustainable development is “development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”.
(The Brundtland Report, World Commission on Environment and Development)

The Indlovu Project serves the people of the Monwabisi Park squatter camp on many different levels. Underlying all our activities is the development of a set of Sustainable Systems designed to:

• Foster a culture of sustainability
• Reduce energy and water consumption
• Provide efficient and effective methods for the upliftment and development of the community into a flourishing eco-village.

We will continue to focus on environmental education and environmentally sustainable design to influence the attitudes, aspirations, practices and values of our community.

We will also ensure our people have a clear understanding of their natural and constructed environment and a stake in the sustainable development of Monwabisi Park.

Cape Town's natural resources, our environment, and a healthy, secure future for our children are at stake.
