Some individuals are worse off than others in this already poverty stricken community. Vincent had his legs shot off by the apartheid police and has walked on crutches for the past 20 years. He asked for a wheelchair, and thanks to our friends at Avanti in the UK he received a wheelchair and a great pair of boots for his artificial feet.
Tatam’bele is an elderly gentleman who helped to build the eco-cottage. His heart was set on a hand cycle. With our help he became the proud owner of a blue racing bike.
Two young women who did not complete their schooling because they fell pregnant are now back at school and have graduated with their matriculation certificates thanks to sponsorship from our generous donors.
In November 2008 8 families living close to the centre lost their homes to fire. They were given clothes, furniture and home-ware to help them rebuild. The community centre acts as an emergency refuge in urgent cases of disaster.
Volunteers in the project have also assisted in building and repairing shacks, paving communal areas and planting gardens.
