'Nopopi' - "dolls" in Xhosa is a range of exquisite and charming handmade dolls dressed in traditional Xhosa costumes. Each doll is unique and wears an exact replica of a traditional Xhosa dress.
Nopopi is the brain child of Vuyokazi Mbewu, a fashion designer and authority of traditional Xhosa culture. She is married to Dizu Plaatjies, the world reknowned Xhosa folk musician and is also the granddaughter of Nelson Mandela.
Vuyo works with the elders group from the Indlovu project, as well as unemployed women and disabled people from the Monwabisi Park community to produce this range of collectors' items.
The dolls are sold to raise funds for the support and care of the elderly and the disabled.
