Global Schools' Network
On Friday 10 October 2008, Bishops’ Global Issues Network Group visited the Indlovu (means strength in isiXhosa) Centre in Monwabisi Park, Khayelitsha. It was only the third or fourth time I personally had been into Khayelitsha, home to nearly two million of Cape Town’s poorest residents, despite attending Bishops, just a few kilometres away.

Back at the project’s hub — a cluster of multi-purpose, double- storey structures around a central square — the garden is exemplary. It was founded on a rubbish dump, but now it’s carefully sheltered by shade cloth and watered by the piped spill- off from Makazi’s, which operates under strictly eco-sensitive rules.
