At midnight on Sunday 30th November 2008 a fire swept through the Indlovu centre and reduced it to ashes. 26 of our neighbours also lost their shacks and all their possessions. Everyone has been devastated by this tragic event, but thankfully nobody was seriously injured.

The fire began in a shack some distance away when a parafin lamp was knocked over. The strong wind fanned the flames, and in spite of having 25 fire engines there, nothing could be saved. We have lost everything - from our clinic to our new community centre. It doesn't even bear thinking about.

We are now picking ourselves up, dusting off the ashes and planning to rebuild in January 2009.

January 16th 2009

Today we start rebuilding the creche on a shoestring budget, but with many willing volunteers from the community.

Well-wishers and supporters from all over the world have been sending donations and messages of support, and for all of this goodwill we are immensely grateful. It gives us the strength to continue.

January 25th 2009

A mass prayer meeting is planned for Sunday 25th January at 11 am (Cape Town time) on the open ground where the Indlovu Project used to stand. Everyone will be gathering to pray for healing and peace in the community and in our country. All people of good will are welcome to join in, no matter where you may be.

February 2009

Thank you to Investec Bank who have donated funds to rebuild the clinic and to Sir Ian McKellen who has donated the money we need to rebuild the guest house. Work has started and volunteers are welcome.

March 2009

The reconstruction is going well. By Easter the new creche building will be finished in time for the new term. An apartment upstairs above the creche classrooms will accommodate 8 people who can also enjoy the beautiful sea and mountain views from the balcony.
