Community Soup Kitchen

This inspiring double story building has been built by the street committee in the area. During the day the crèche operates downstairs, and the training of the craft group happens upstairs. Then in the afternoon the youth group practices singing and dancing downstairs, while upstairs people are busy earning a living making various items of handwork.

The kitchen makes meals for the children in the crèche – (thanks to the generous donation of a brand new stove and a fridge) as well as cooking on a large scale for the orphans feeding scheme. Most of the vegetables are grown in the nearby garden tended by the community.

In the evenings the upstairs section is used for adult education programmes, and youngsters gather downstairs to watch TV on the huge colour TV we have recently received.

On Saturday mornings we have a group of pensioners who come to tell traditional stories to the kids who have nowhere to play and nothing to do. Afterwards everyone enjoys a good meal.

The INdlovu Centre activities are based on practical and workable principles of permaculture – i.e. each element has many functions; elimination of unnecessary waste; using natural systems wherever possible; working with respect for people & the planet and sharing resources.

The program allows participants to produce extraordinary results and provide a practical new freedom that brings a quality of effectiveness and hope to everyday life.
