The Shaster Foundation for Community Development is based in Cape Town, South Africa and is a registered Public Benefit Orgnisation (PBO). It was formed in 1993 by the founder, Di Womersley.
The Indlovu project is our biggest achievement and is the result of brilliant teamwork between the community of Monwabisi Park squatter camp and us. Built and managed by a team of community members the project has grown from a small creche in 2005, to a thriving and bustling cluster of public buildings that include a clinic, a soup kitchen, a youth centre, a training centre for Montessori educators, organic food gardens, a public laundry facility, a guest house, a tourist centre and accommodation for backpackers.
Our success can be attributed to the ethical principles by which we work, and the open communication between the community and ourselves. All our work is community driven and focussed on improving the health and well being of all.
Our volunteer programme offers many different experiences for people from all over the world to join in creating a life changing opportunity not only for this poor community, but also for themselves.
